The
Ardglass Development Association
text for more
information.)
The Ardglass Development Association - ADA
- was formed at an inaugural public meeting in 1991
with the aim of creating facilities within Ardglass and
district that would make
Ardglass an even more pleasant place in which to live and work.
ADA
is a voluntary organisation of people who are prepared to give a
little time (or even a lot!) to improve aspects of the Village that will
add to and improve the quality of life for residents - and create
facilities to welcome visitors! Officers and
Committee of the association are elected at an annual general meeting each
year.
Without such voluntary effort a community might die. With the effort comes the
surprising realisation that much can be achieved, with patient application, that
the effort of a few can create things that would not
otherwise exist.
The Marina
 The present
committee of ADA
appreciate how much has been achieved by those who have devoted
time and effort in the past, especially with the creation of the Marina
in 1996. The transformation of a
section of unused harbour shoreline into a facility with berths for 80 yachts
and small craft required expenditure of £1.5 million! The Marina
project was made to
happen by a few people who had an idea and worked at it until it became a reality.
The Marina was the first ADA
project and is now operated by a voluntary team of local people
functioning as a Limited Company - Phennick Cove
Developments Ltd. Ardglass
Website
The next project was the creation of a website that
would provide a picture of the village and its facilities. This was
launched in 1998 and totally revised and updated in 2001. The
address is, as you know, www.argdglass.net.
We will be pleased at any time to hear from you, with any comment or
suggestion that you may make, especially if the website or the village will
benefit from your ideas. We particularly welcome visitors comments via our
Guestbook, launched in
August 2001 and the new FORUM pages launched 16 May
2005. Information & Communication Centre
In April 2001
we established a high-tech
information & computer technology (ICT) Resource Centre, which includes more
than a dozen state of the art computers, radio linked to the internet and to colour and black & white laser
printers. The project took two years to complete, at a cost of
£15,000. The ICT Resource Centre, located in the
Community Centre in High Street, is normally open to the general public from 9 am to 5
p.m Monday to Friday, offering a wide variety of services at the cheapest
possible rates. For further details click here. Ardglass
Village Regeneration

allocating approximately £4 million to be spent on various projects has been
achieved. , Practical work is expected to start in the Spring of 2006
